About the Role
The Institute for Citizens & Scholars is hiring a Communications Manager to shape powerful narratives and content strategies that promote civic learning and higher education reform. This remote role (New Jersey-based work required) is perfect for a strategic storyteller with experience in mission-driven communications, content strategy, and editorial management across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Lead content development for websites, print materials, fundraising, and impact storytelling
Translate civic research into accessible narratives and messaging
Ensure brand consistency across platforms including digital, social media, and print
Maintain an editorial calendar and multimedia content library
Manage content production and collaborate on deployment with internal teams
Contribute to narrative development for PR, marketing, and fundraising campaigns
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
8+ years of experience in content strategy, editorial, or communications
Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven sectors
Preferred:
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling
Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite
Strong project management and vendor oversight
Familiarity with higher ed trends (equity, student success, institutional change)
Collaborative, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
