About the Role
HMH’s NWEA division is hiring a Lead Assessment Designer – Spanish Language Arts to lead development of high-quality, research-based Spanish assessments that drive equity and impact in K–12 education. This remote leadership role blends content expertise, Spanish language proficiency, and project management to shape industry-leading assessments and tools that serve multilingual learners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Spanish Language Arts assessment development from item writing to test design
Serve as subject matter expert and guide translation/transadaptation efforts
Create test specs, training materials, and vendor guidance documents
Collaborate on RFPs, product roadmaps, and partner presentations
Review content for quality, alignment, and accessibility across formats
Manage assessment development projects using Agile/Scrum methodologies
Coach colleagues, improve workflows, and promote equity through assessments
Qualifications
Required:
B.A./B.S. in Education, Spanish Language, or related field
5+ years of experience in Spanish assessment/item development
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken)
Experience with curriculum standards, educational measurement, and test development
Strong understanding of early Spanish literacy, dual language education, and multilingual learners
Experience with translation/transadaptation and Spanish copyediting
Familiarity with Lean/Agile workflows
Preferred:
Master’s or higher in Education or related field
7+ years in Spanish and/or English assessment development
Expertise in K–5 Spanish Language Arts, reading fluency, or literacy screening
